the refrigerator and freezer stop working
I noticed the the freezer was beginning to thaw out and the refrigerator was no longer cooling. Due to the age of the refrigerator I thought that it couldn't be anything too major so I sought out some advice and order the necessary parts through partselect.com The problem was the thermostat in the freezer and changing out was pretty simple. The website offers some good advice along with quick delivery which makes attempting the repairs worthwhile. I would definitely use partselect.com again for any other appliance repairs!

Constant Compressor Short-Cycle, Actual Unit Temp Colder Than Settings
Turn freezer section control wheel off, unplug unit. Then remove all items/baskets from freezer to allow access. Use nut driver to unscrew 3 screws on control plastic housing. Drop down housing from top and unplug wires (note correct locations) from control wheel switch. Remove screws and ground wire from metal backing plate to plastic housing. Push or pry the 2 metal holdtabs down carefully to allow the 2 plastic housing tab fingers to be pushed inwards to seperate metal plate from housing. Pry control wheel off from switch arm with screwdriver. Remove switch and replace with new one. Use the reverse order of removal above to replace into freezer but use caution when replacing wheel onto switch arm and plugging in wires. Remember to carefully pry the 2 metal tabs back up to secure the plastic finger tabs in place. Job done.

Refrigerator worked, Freezer only getting to 29 degrees
Because the refrigerator worked (38-40 degrees) and the freezer only got down to 29 degrees, I thought that the freezer thermostat had gone bad. Changed it out but results are the same.

Freezer cooling cycle became warmer
There was water on floor at front and ice cubes in freezer were wet. Freezer cooling cycle had become warmer. Received part. disassembled the temperature control; i.e., pulled off the control knob; removed 3 screws holding unit to top of freezer; pulled two wires from their connectors to the old "control unit"; pushed them onto the connections of the new unit; reassembled the control to the top of the freezer with the three screws and pushed on the control knob.

Fridge and Freezer getting too warm.
In Freezer, removed the 3 screws hold up the dial to select the temperature. Once this is lowered you see the Cold Control Thermostat. New one was a bit different, but still fit. I carefully bent the sensor wire to come around to the front of the so it would fit. Slide the plastic tube over the sensor wire. I guessed on the Red and Yellow wires. I don't know if it matters if this is AC. I think I had the Red closest to the front. 2 prongs for the ground, but just need the small one. Put is all back together and it is working great.

My freezer will cool down to -19c and then the compressor shuts off. Then the freezer warms to 0c then the compressor kicks in again. The fridge compartment will rise to 9c before cooling. I have replaced the defrost timer and the thermostat and nothing has changed. I took the cold control thermostat out it seems to have continuity, but could the temperature sensor be defective?

Hello Greg, Thank you for the question. Checking the model it does not show it has a sensor. I suggest checking the Cold Control Thermostat, PartSelect Number PS10062758. If the cold control is warm, the contacts should read closed when they are turned on. Hope this helps!

Bottom freezer began to thaw - top warmer than normal. I emptied frig and let run for days - unit barely would cool. I did not look for ice buildup before turning off for several hours. I let the unit run all last night and it seemed to cool properly. From what i could tell from your site it sounded like the defrost timer or defrost thermostat so i ordered both from you today. However, i just noticed that the freezer thermostat control hangs up between 4 and 5 when turned lower - about to where the unit was set for proper cooling. When i jiggle the knob enough to get past 4 or 5, the off function of the thermostat does turn the compressor and lights off and when turned on the unit has cooled all night seemingly fine. I am concerned that the problem could be in the freezers thermostat control. Can i assume that if the unit is running and cooling then the thermostat is doing its job of calling for cold air? Or is it possible that the thermostat control "could" make the fans run but not call for the compressor to cool properly. Thanks

You may have to consult your owner's manual to verify the proper temperature to set the refrigerator to.
