Dryer motor started making a screeching sound then died. Replace motor with OE unit. Also replaced heating element and high limit thermostat while I was in there. Back together and motor won’t start unless I spin the drum manually, then something clicks and it takes off but I don’t get any heat. I continuity checked all the thermostats/limiters and got zero ohms except on this THERMOSTAT Part #: PS418429, I got 8ohms. Is that bad? What should I look for?

Hi Brad,
Thank you for your question. The screeching noise you heard before replacing the motor may have been the idler pulley. When it becomes worn it will make this sound. If you just replaced the motor and it only starts when you turn the drum by hand, you will need to check the belt, the idler pulley, the motor, and the door switch. We have included a link that you may reference on how to check these parts. Once you have determined the part you need, please call customer service. We look forward to hearing from you!

Three thermostats are mentioned: Thermostat, cycling thermostat, and high limit thermostat. How does one determine which one is faulty? My dryer has some heat, but it takes sometimes two, even three cycles to fully dry clothes. As expensive as these parts are, I would like to be sure which to replace. Is continuity testing sufficient proof for the thermostats effectively operating? Can you help me decide which thermostat is likely the problem? Brian

Hi Brian. The best way is detecting for continuity with a multi-meter. There is no way to be sure otherwise. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
