How do I install this? It looks like I need to pull out the cooktop? How do I do that?
For model number magic chief 88fk
Hi Peter,
Thank you for your question. Before performing this repair, please turn the circuit breaker off to the cooktop and disconnect the power. If your cooktop is held in place with brackets, you will need to unthread the screws that secures them to the counter and bend the brackets down, so you can remove it. The cooktop should be held in place with some foam tape. You can either use a putty knife to gently go around the cooktop, so you can lift it up or you can open a cupboard door and use your hand to push it up. Once you have removed the cooktop from the counter, place it on a sturdy surface, so you can work on it. Then remove the knobs from the cooktop. Once you have the knobs removed, use a screwdriver to unthread the screws securing the glass cooktop to the burner box. With the screws removed you can now remove the cooktop. There is usually tape securing the glass to the burner box. If you are unable to remove the glass, gently use a putty knife to go around the edges to loosen it. Then gently remove the glass from the burner box. Then remove the box covering the switches. Then remove the wires connected to the old switch and use a screwdriver to unthread the screws securing the switch to the console. Then install the new switch by attaching the wires to it and secure it to the console with the screws. Then follow the steps in reverse to reinstall the cooktop into the counter. Restore power to the cooktop and it should now work for you. If you have any questions, please let us know. We are open 7 days a week. We look forward to hearing from you!
