leaking dishwasher
I first replaced the door seal and that did not stop the problem but noticed two little seals on the door. They were terribly worn so I unscrewed the door and cut the little washers that were holding the old ones in place. I replaced the seals and put the cut washers back on (I didn't have new ones) and it was done. All is well.

The seals were deteriorated at the lower part of the door and allowed leaks. The door latch broke out twice, so replaced whole handle mechanism this time.
The repair is simple open the door and remove the perimeter screws and lift the door panel up. Be careful of attached wires. The handle only requires that you remove two electrical connectors and reconnect to the new latch handle and realign it with the screw holes in the door panel. The seals are not as easy to change they are attached with spring clips that I had to snipe through to get the old seals off. The new seals did not come with new spring clips, so I flattened the clips and reused them, they did not hold as tight, but seemed to work. Then just reinstall the panel.

broken handle/latch that locks door
anterior door, star allen set to undo, hot/neutral wires. will disconnect with some difficulty, ok to break. new latch is a large complete unit with new hot/neural wire attachments.
The snaps that are apart of exterior of maytag are likely broken if the latch is but the anter start screws keep it more than stable.
reassemble anterior with screws.
its a good idea to order and replace the rubber corner door seals at the same time if the unit is some yrs old. very easy. they will snap off/on.
this unit is a deluxe maytag 2006 model. white

Replacing inner door panel, current existing panel does not have bottom corner seals (wp99002589)... are they necessary? because this unit sure didn't have them. it also doesn't have the metal support bracket across the top inside of the inner panel, is this also not necessary? could these items have been missed from the factory?
For model number mdb5601aws
Hello Kelly, Thank you for the question. Checking the model number information it does show the appliance does require these items and should have been included when the appliance was bought. Hope this helps!
