Washer would not function in any mode
By lifting and removing the plastic end caps on the washer control panel you can access the two machine screws at the front holding the panel to the top of the washer. Once the two truss head sheet metal screws at the upper rear corners of the control panel are removed the entire control panel can tilt forward to allow access to the timer/cycle selector switch. There are instructions molded into the rear surface of the timer for proper removal and replacement of the timer knob. There is one small hex head sheet metal screw located under the control knob holding the timer in place. Once removed and the two electrical connections are unplugged the timer needs to be slid to the one side to disengage the lugs holding the timer to the control panel sheet metal. Replacing the old timer with a new one is easily accomplished by reversing the order of disassembly.
For me the most difficult step was how to access the front retainer screws without breaking anything. As it turned out it was remarkably easy. Simply lift up on the front lower corner of the plastic end caps. The simplicity of design engineering demonstrates a clear understanding of the product and the end user. Really very commendable !
