Our Whirlpool dishwasher has begun to leak from the door bottom out onto the floor. The gaskets on the side and top of the machine body appear to be normal. The door has a very sticky substance across the entire door bottom, can only be accessed when the door is open, can not see it, but it does not feel like a gasket, very sticky. Would I be correct in replacing the gasket across the door bottom, or might there be another problem? The inside of the washer shows no sign of rust of other deterioration.

Hi Arnold, I'm thinking it may just be junk at the bottom of the dishwasher. Try cleaning it with vinegar and baking soda first. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair!

Is there a gasket across the door bottom, or is what i feel (but can not see) just a build-up of soap and fats which is stopping the metal pieces of the door and tub from sealing so the water and suds in the bottom of the washer can get out through the vents on the bottom of the door? If there is supposed to be a gasket, how do i get to see it to remove the pieces and install a replacement on the door bottom?

Hello Arnold, thank you for your question. This part, PartSelect Number PS382738, is the lower door gasket that goes on the bottom of the inner door. here is a video on our website that you can reference on how to install the bottom door gasket. The dishwasher in the video may not show exactly like the one you have and the part may not look exactly like the one you have, but it will give you a general idea on how to install the part. You will find the video under part number PS2337852. If you do not find this video helpful, you will need to consult your owner's manual. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
